The Web has evolved from a distributed infrastructure for the delivery of information to a planet-wide distributed application platform. The success of the Web as the platform of choice for collaboration, social networking, the delivery of end-user functionality attracted in addition to information has attracted the attention of the research community. What are the enabling technologies? What should we expect to see in the future? This talk will take a speculative look at how researchers are going to be enabled by the power of the Web in the future.
